The Bengal cat is a hybrid breed
created from crossbreeding of domestic
cats (e.g. the Egyptian Mau) with the
wild Asian leopard cat.
Jean Mill of California is usually
credited with its creation. The
earliest mentions of the breed come
from 1899.
Some nations regulate the breed due to
recent hybridisation.
